  2. SOFTSTROKES IV USER'S GUIDE
  3. --------------------------------
  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to 
  5. use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
  6.  
  7. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  8. -------------------
  9. Softstrokes IV images require application(s) that are compatible 
  10. with EPS and GIF file formats. All EPS images are saved using Adobe 
  11. Illustrator. All GIF images are saved with Adobe Photoshop. Any other 
  12. hardware or software requirements will be based primarily on the applications 
  13. you use and the type of final output you plan to produce.

  15. The illustrations in this collection are each provided in 2 file 
  16. formats. They are grouped in the Images folders and differentiated by file name 
  17. as follows:

  19. EPS and GIF FILES:
  20. Illustrator 3.0, naming convention 001SSB04.EPS (Black-and-White)
  21. Illustrator 3.0, naming convention 001SSC04.EPS (Color)
  22. Photoshop 2.5, 72 dpi, naming convention 001SSW04.GIF (RGB)

  25. EXTENSIS PORTFOLIO BROWSER (Windows 95/NT)
  26. ------------------------------------------
  27. The Extensis Portfolio Browser included on this CD allows you to view thumbnails 
  28. and file names for the images included on this CD. The browser can also be used 
  29. to search for images on the CD by entering keywords and descriptions and allows 
  30. you to view a larger preview of an image or copy an original image to your hard 
  31. drive. No installation is required to use the Extensis Portfolio Browser. Simply 
  32. open the Artworks catalog folder and open the "Extensis Portfolio Browser" folder 
  33. and double-click on "Portfolio Browser.exe". Once the browser opens, a dialog box 
  34. will appear. Click once on the "Up One Level" Button (this button looks like a 
  35. folder with an up arrow inside of it) and choose the catalog you want to open.

  37. In the Extensis Portfolio Browser folder is a file called "Portfolio 3.0 Browser 
  38. QSG.pdf" this file contains instructions on how to use the Portfolio Browser. 
  39. The Adobe« Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer first in order to 
  40. view any Acrobat (PDF) files. See the Adobe Acrobat Reader Installation 
  41. Instructions below.

  43. Artworks Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the images in this Artworks 
  44. package.

  46. YOU DO NOT NEED EXTENSIS PORTFOLIO BROWSER OR ANY OF THE ITEMS IN THE 
  47. CATALOG FOLDER TO USE THE ARTWORK ON THE CD.

  50. ADOBE« ACROBAT READER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  53. The Adobe« Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer first in order to 
  54. view any Acrobat (PDF) files.
  55.  
  56. The installation program for "Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01" can be found in the 
  57. Adobe Acrobat folder located in the "Extensis Portfolio Browser" folder. Windows 
  58. 3.1 users should use the 16-bit installer (ar16e301.exe) and Windows 95 users 
  59. should use the 32-bit installation program(ar32e301.exe). Double-click the file 
  60. to run the installer.

  66. USING THE ARTWORK ON THIS CD

  68. PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS:
  69. Open your page layout program. Create a new document and PLACE the 
  70. EPS files as you would any other images. The following page layout programs are 
  71. compatible with EPS file formats:
  72.     *Adobe PageMaker
  73.     *QuarkXPress

  75. DRAW PROGRAMS:
  76. To edit the EPS files, OPEN or IMPORT them with your draw program.
  77. EPS files: 
  78.     *Adobe Illustrator
  79.     *Macromedia Freehand        
  80.     *Corel DRAW! (Import)

  82. PAINT PROGRAMS:
  83. The GIF files can be manipulated like any other bitmap 
  84. images in the following programs:
  85.     *Adobe Photoshop
  86.     *Corel Photo-Paint

  88. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your manual for 
  89. compatibility.
